make the changes gradually & early

Sudden change can confuse & stress pets. “Pets thrive on routine, especially because their sense of time is based on regularity,” says Ragen McGowan, PhD, research scientist & pet behavior expert at Purina. Your pet will better adapt to shifts implemented gradually, which means ideally starting a month or two before you need the change in place. If you can’t start that far out, a few weeks or days is better than nothing.

When work & school changes will effect the timing of your pet’s meals, walks, playtime & potty breaks, start shifting toward the new times in 15-minute increments. If you have only a few weeks or days, make the moves in larger time chunks.
