Ever since you were a kid, Mom told you to eat your vegetables. And you still hear that message as an adult. Veggies are packed with nutrients and can be filling and low in calories, making them great for your health and your waistline. But don’t neglect another form of produce: fruit. Like veggies, fruit can be chock-full of antioxidants and nutrients, and is often a low-calorie treat. It’s an important component in a healthy diet.
Most people should aim for 1-3 servings of fruit each day, depending on their calorie goals. So my challenge for you is to eat at least one FRESH serving of fruit today. Avoid the canned fruits and fruit cups (which can be drowning in added sugar), skip the fruit juice (which is higher in calories and sugar and lower in fiber) and say no to the dried fruits (which often contain added sugar and oils and are very concentrated calorie sources). Instead, grab something “straight from the farm”, so to speak. The great thing about fresh fruit is you know exactly what you’re eating–and it’s already portion controlled for you. I hope you enjoy this sweet challenge today!
