–Rae van Maanen, 74 Little River, South Carolina

“My passion right now is making dresses for orphanages around the world. I’ve made more than 2,500 dresses, and every time I make one, I think of the girl who’s going to be wearing it and her smile. That make me so happy. It’s not a big deal, but it is to me.”

–Anita Rocheleau, 84, Leesburg, Florida

“My work keeps me happy. I’m a writer and editor who plans to never retire. Even if I hit the lotto tonight. I would keep right on working.”

–Cynthia MacGregor, 76, Palm Springs, Florida

“I appreciate the simplest moments, I wake up each morning with a thankful heart and a morning ritual of drinking coffee with our cat, Mr. Wiggins, in my lap, and my husband of 58 years by my side. this relaxing hour every day gives me a calm start to the day.”

–Anna Ruth Cheek, 79, Taylorsville, Kentucky

“I know myself better, am more comfortable in the world, feel less pressured to do things I don’t want to do, and I take risks I wouldn’t have taken when I was younger. The biggest freedom has come from not caring as much what people think of me. I’ve grown into wanting to please myself more.”
